Today, we are surrounded by gadgets. In the past, we used to have a movie release every Friday, but now it has been taken over by the release of all types of gadgets, some of which seem too unreal to be true. We have devices with better features and resolutions than the movie theater screens and the device with the most usage is our cell phones. With newer and advanced specifications and features available in the cell phone with features such as ultra high quality video shooting, it is bound to be a detriment to the general public and one of the major deprivation is micro-contents and its phenomenal rise. A micro-content is a media visual which generally is under half a minute used to describe summary of a major content such as movies. This was majorly created to summarize an event in a short speck of time. This was created in the essence that any amateur videographer if they wish to create a short video, they need not download any large softwares and/or learn them as they prove to be very difficult. So with the birth of these kinds of videos, came along new video creating applications for the mobile phones such as Quibi or Tik-Tok. Tik-Tok, originally started out by the name Musical.ly. It was a mere app, powerful enough to create unbelievable Computer Generated Imagery effects in smaller devices using very low power. This software could create short and stunning videos in such a short time, which if it was to be done on a major video editing software, it could take hours to build. These softwares were a boon for the amateur audience who wanted to make superb videos as these softwares require minimum training to understand and any media content could be developed more easily. With the rise of these softwares, it started to be misused. The general audience started to instead use it for acting, lip syncing, and a lot of content generalizing misuse. The whole motive of these softwares was going for downfall. With more and more of this kind of material now on the rise, a bigger chunk of the population, mainly the millennial generation started to follow suit. A new addiction has formed with the majority of the generation creating these materials whereas a very lesser amount of the population started making informative and mind-blowing videos.

With the rise of micro videos, software companies started to update their applications in various ways possible including changing videos with just the swipe of a finger and adhering to the mindsets of the teenage generation, this strategy worked. Since these videos are under thirty seconds each, meant that the audience started streaming more than tens and hundreds of videos continuously. This plays tricks with the mind as we need more and more and generally no one tends to stop streaming. This started creating an adverse effect on the mental health of a lot of these millennials such as addiction to create videos for more and more views, since these do capture thousands of views in mere couple of hours, the teenage minds generally tend to create more such content. With these, it also has an adverse effect on vision as mostly kids and teenagers are glued to their screens continuously which can lead to various types of negativities such as encouragement of negative comparison, bullying, waste of time, leading to short attention spans, misinformation, division of people, etc. There might be even more negative effects possible that even the general public does not know about. Apart from that, one major aspect is that artists who create and make professional videos for a living are suffering due to these. Since the applications make video creation look very easy, it has had a negative impact on the society of people who make videos professionally.

In essence, these micro-contents have damaged more than they have done any good. Any content is helpful until they are misused. If these softwares or applications were to be set in motion with proper intentions, they could have taken the entire video composing industry by storm but alas, that is not the case. Hence, a movement which could have been taken by storm instead turned into a disaster. In the end, as what opinion states, the rise of micro-contents is a detrimental episode which only resulted in the worst.
