The Curious Case of a 1972 coin

We all happen to have interests something commonly known as a 'hobby'. Well I happen to have a hobby of collecting coins from different countries and historical coins too .

So I possess

two albums - one having old Indian coins and another having foreign country coins, some old, some new, some of which have ceased in productions like the German Pfennig.

A few days ago, while I was going through all my coins, I realised I have a very rare coin.

You see Bangladesh got its liberation from Pakistan in 1971. Before that, it was under Pakistani rule and was called East Pakistan. As it turns out, the transition in the governments took some time and the transfer of coins took a longer time.

While going through my bunch of coins, I found a coin, which was given to me by my late Grandfather who migrated from Bangladesh to India just after India's Independence. The coin has a denomination of 50 Paise. However, the other side of the coin says in Bangla "পাকিস্তান সরকার" which translates to 'Pakistan Government'. This got me very curious on what the story of this coin is.

It turns out that although Bangladesh got independence from Pakistan on March 26th 1971, Pakistan however took a long time to handover their mints.

One year to be precise. In 1972 up to the months January or February showed the Pakistan Government printed on the coins.

I have several more such interesting coins in store for you.

Here is the picture of that coin.
