Paranormal stories have been around since the start of civilization. Some people call it belief, some people call it reality. It is hard to explain how it feels to see something or feel something paranormal unless it happens to us self. I will share today some of the old stories that have been passed down to me.

This story happens when my grandfather was a kid. Around the year between 1940 and 1950, he lived in Bangladesh. It was around this time when the British were about to leave the Indian Subcontinent in a mere couple of years. It is this time, he gets a new hobby of fishing. But due to not having any knowledge of it, he started getting all messed up. One fine day, his private tutor visits him and he shares his concern over the fishing trouble, so his tutor eagerly tells him that he will teach him how to catch a fish using the old school fishing net, but he has to wake up at 4 a.m. Fair enough, excited to learn fishing, he goes to sleep early and is ready for his big day. Next day, he wakes up early, gears up for his big day and exactly at 4 a.m..There is a knock on his door, this being still dark, outside standing is a big dark figure, although only a dark silhouette, yet very much resembling the exact figure of his tutor, excited that the big moment has finally come, he decides to head out, and starts walking towards the nearby pond. The pond approaches, yet his tutor doesn’t stop. He thinks that maybe they are going to a lake, where there are more opportunities, so he asks his tutor, “Sir, where are we heading?”, out comes no reply, he asks again “Sir, where are we heading?”, again, there is no reply. At this moment, the light of the dawn starts to appear and as he can now see the neighborhood, he realizes that this is not normal, the lakes and ponds are far left back. He sees that his tutor has started to walk much faster. “Sir, please slow down, I can’t walk this fast”, there is no reply from him. At this moment, he starts getting paranoid, and realizes that what they are approaching is not a lake, but an old graveyard. Fearful of his life, he wraps his net around his body. This is when he realized it wasn’t his tutor, as the figure finally stops and starts to speak in a rather strange metallic voice, “This time you got saved, the next time, you won’t be alive”. The figure vanishes into thin air after this conversation. Fearful for his life, he makes a run for it and collapses half-way. He wakes up in his home and sees his house is filled with people, it’s afternoon now. The people living near where he fainted recognized him and dropped him home. He is now stable, thanking God how he got saved. That evening, his tutor comes home to visit. Seeing his tutor come home, he asks him what happened in the morning. To his complete dismay, his tutor replied that he forgot to wake up in the morning, hence he didn’t come. Whatever it was, was not human in any form. He has truly seen something paranormal.

This next story is not from my family but rather from a family friend, who once told my mother about this story, she has told me about this. This guy used to work in a Government organization. Once he and his friends visited the Sundarbans River Delta for an official field trip. That time, there was not a lot going on about hotels or resorts, so they had booked a guest house provided by the local government. He reaches the location and he has to share the room with one other person. After reaching there, he freshens up, has his meal and gets ready for the night. It was a long tiring day of travel, he needs to sleep before he can start his work the next day. There is one problem, being the delta, there’s a lot of mosquitos around so he puts the mosquito net around his bed. Now he is completely ready for his night in. As soon as he turns the lamp off, he notices a figure of a woman draped in white standing on one corner of his bed holding one of the ropes of the mosquito net, he’s in complete awe, he turns on the light, only to find no one, thinking it might be his hallucination from the tiredness, he turns the lights off, there she is again, on the same corner, holding the rope of the mosquito net, now he is starting to realize, it is not a hallucination, but a reality. He decides not to turn the lights off anymore, instead let it stay on. Staying awake the entire night, as the sun rises, he goes to the local police station. The police search the place, and they find an old cupboard. They break open it and find old skeletal remains in it. They remove the bones from the cupboard and with the help of a local priest, they perform the funeral ritual. And the priest assures that it is now safe. Fearful of the past night’s experience, he goes to his bed absolutely white, and doing the same routine, and this time, as he turns the lights off, all is good. That entity is gone and everything is normal again.
We don’t realize how scary things can become until and unless it happens to ourselves. When we listen to it, we generally disregard it as some fairy tale, but the stories are very much true. Whether ghosts exist or not, we don’t know, at least science hasn’t proved that. But science can’t prove a lot of stuff. Some things are out of our imagination. There are a lot of mysteries out there, it is better they stay a mystery. In our hindsight, it is better to not think of it, as it only adds up to stress in our lives. Whatever it is, it still gives us chills every time we hear about it.
